Blog no more

I’ve been thinking a lot about the current and future state of this website.

All I seem to do with this site is log in to update WordPress plugins every now and then. Although a minor chore, every little unnecessary cost of money or time I can remove is a good thing.

I mean, I ask myself a lot why I use WordPress for this website… Or why have this website at all?

Who the heck uses WordPress for a website they’re not making money on?

Besides, sometimes I think I’m crazy telling strangers on the internet all about my ovaries. LOL. Well, I know some of you who come along and read this blog are regulars. However, a fair chunk (of the teeny amount of traffic I get) appears to be from random internet searches and community groups.

Oh, and did I mention that everything I’ve written here is probably being collected by internet archives? Yeah that’s a real thing that happens. And no, you can’t stop it (easily). It’s something I feel really uncomfortable about.

So, I have a plan but the execution is going to take a while.

There will be no more active blog (unless I really really feel like it) and no more WordPress on this site.

I hope this isn’t misunderstood! I still really really love WordPress and will continue to use it for business websites for the foreseeable future.

But there will be a cessation of posts to do with my life. And the opinionated posts will be on a “when I feel like it” schedule.

Photos and stories of holidays and stuff will be shared with close friend/family groups – because that’s where I feel comfortable sharing these things.

All the posts about my personal life were born out of loneliness and not really having friends to talk to about these things. I think since lockdown ended, there’s been less need for that.

So yeah. This website isn’t going anywhere. Random content like my pixels and Roller Coaster Tycoon tracks aren’t going anywhere. I’ll be keeping the “best of” posts somewhere. (All of this is going to happen slowly over a long time.)

It’s been great having the occasional familiar person pop in. I hope we find a way to connect again in future.
